Key facts

The Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering offers Ph.D. and M.S. degrees, as well as two professional degrees in systems engineering. Graduate students can pursue their degrees in one of two focus areas: operations research and management science or systems engineering and integration.

Students pursuing a master’s degree acquire excellent skills at the cutting edge of systems engineering. They also benefit from George Washington University's many contacts with industry and governmental leaders. Students may choose a thesis or non-thesis option for the degree.

The professional degree program is designed for students who want in-depth study in their field beyond a master's degree but who seek to concentrate on applied subject material rather than on basic science. This post-master's program provides advanced study in preparation for pragmatic application and leads to the degree of engineer or of applied scientist.

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required of all applicants.
Two (2) recommendations required for all other applicants.
Transcripts are required from all colleges and universities attended, whether or not credit was earned, the program was completed, or the credit appears as transfer credit on another transcript.
In an essay of 250 to 500 words, state your purpose in undertaking graduate study at The George Washington University; describe your academic objectives, research interests, and career plans;
Additional requirements: Bachelor's degree with a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the last 60 hours of coursework.
