Overview
The Civil Engineering programme at The University of New Mexico provides a comprehensive, coursework-only Master of Engineering degree focused on professional practice. This curriculum is specifically designed to equip students with advanced technical expertise and management training essential for successful design engineers.
As the only institution in the state to offer this specific Master of Engineering qualification, the university ensures that graduates are prepared for high-level roles in the industry. The programme emphasises both technical proficiency and the development of critical written and oral communication skills.
The flexible structure is ideal for students who work full-time, with various classes available online to accommodate those unable to attend the main campus.
Why Civil Engineering at The University of New Mexico?
The department maintains close collaborations with local engineering firms and national laboratories to ensure the curriculum remains relevant to current industry needs. These partnerships help create highly-qualified employees and reduce the necessity for extensive on-the-job training.
Students benefit from a curriculum developed alongside industry leaders, such as representatives from Bohannan Huston, Inc. This professional input ensures that the training aligns with the expectations of employers seeking candidates with education beyond a bachelor's degree.
The university provides access to specialised research areas and laboratory facilities, including the Center for Water and the Environment. These resources support a learning environment that bridges the gap between theoretical engineering principles and practical application.
