By the end of the Costume Making course at The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), you graduate as a skilled, resourceful costume maker and researcher with a strong portfolio of practice and credits from fully realised productions.

Their airy and spacious workshops provide inspirational spaces for making and realising designs.

Their making studio is equipped with industrial and domestic sewing machines and over lockers, industrial irons, a large number of dressmaking mannequins and an extensive range of tools, equipment and haberdashery which is included in the course fees.

Their Wardrobe Store contains a wide range of costumes and accessories, ranging from Medieval to modern day.

They also have a well-equipped Laundry and Dye room with industrial washing machines and tumble driers, a drying cabinet, dye-vats and spray booth.

General requirements

You are expected to have a good degree (2:1) in a relevant discipline or practical experience of costume construction and tailoring, with experience of making made to measure garments.
International students also need to meet our English Language requirements of 6.5 overall score for IELTS, with a minimum of 5.5 for each of the 4 individual components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening). Other equivalent English language examinations will be considered.
